Yes, an ancestor of mine, made a lot of money selling cooked food during a gold rush, which he then used to build a good seaside hotel, using the cheap labour and timber, after the gold rush had ended, of course. He had bought the site cheap in a lovely place. He lived well to a ripe old age. So, it is not just make money selling shovels, but think carefully about what happens after the Gold rush ends and be ready for that.

Or, start a company like Levi Strauss (founded 1853), and sell all those jeans to the original panners for California gold. Then 100 years later begin to turn it into a global youth brand for the next 100 years. 😉
