I heard that one more reason to avoid "click here" links is (or used to be?) accessability - apps that read pages to those with sight problems would read out lists of links and if they all were just "link" or "here" then it become unusuable.
Yes, absolutely. That still applies to my knowledge. I think Nielsen/Norman Groups articles are excellent at explaining the reasons to avoid 'click here's:
