When I used to swim in swimming pools (rather than the sea) I noticed that pools that had you circulate so that you swam in the same direction as the person in the lane next to you were a little faster if it was busy. I guess it is like when you draft off someone when cycling.
Huh. I'd not noticed that effect before. Definitely could be. I'll look out for it next time I'm going up and down some lanes.
FWIW in swimrun events you are often tethered to your swim partner which keeps you close behind each other. The drafting effect when swimming is remarkable! It never ceases to amaze me how much impact it can have.
It says far too much about my brain right now that I read this, hurrying to the gym and squinting at my phone through the rain, as "What makes a fast poo?"
That, however, is another Sketchplanation entirely.

Read this before heading out to swim. Not only am I old, I swim in a slow pool. Two strikes against me, but at least I keep showing up!
👌
A fair wind? And following seas?!

One that I hope you never, ever draw.
