Apricity, Words of Wonder, and a conversation with Grant Snider, creator of Incidental Comics and Beautiful Books
Bumbershoot, plash, snerdle, gloaming, petrichor, claggy and more
Sketchplanations is about helping have great conversations about ideas. And the Sketchplanations podcast is a fun space to get stuck into these conversations. In the most recent Sketchplanations podcast episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with artist Grant Snider.
The starter was Apricity, which is one of my favourite words and sketches. Grant has also sketched Apricity in his brilliant Words of Wonder series. So we quickly got into all sorts of fun words—you may have noticed that they’re a frequent topic on here—and how and why to draw them.
I found that Grant, like his work, is thoughtful, kind, generous and full of insight.

Grant is an artist, writer, philosopher and, somehow, full-time orthodontist. His beautiful, whimsical style reminds me of the great Quentin Blake, who illustrated Roald Dahl’s children’s books.
You can find Grant at: Incidental Comics
He also brought out yet another lovely book earlier this year: Thinking About Thinking, which is a joy.
He even created a book all about the love of books and bookishness: I Will Judge you by your Bookshelf
If you enjoy the episode, I’d be really grateful if you’d leave a review for the podcast—written is wonderful on Apple, but even a rating by itself is still brilliant.
We’ve had the pleasure of speaking with a number of brilliant guests in the past months, and I’m excited to share those with you when they come out.
I meant to share this last week, but got excited and shared the oceanography and weather project instead 😅.
Great talking with you, Jono! Fun to be a part of the podcast.
